As I was a kid at that time, I don't remember now what exactly I imagined when hearing the word combination rose of the winds. But until I learnt what it really means, the term obviously had put the mind in a dreamy mood. I also can't but confess that even knowing what it is, my idea of that symbol didn't change:-) And in my perception it still has much more in common with playful wind, outdoors walks and escape from every day life than with routine scientific observations.
Топ із коміром, або Роза вітрів
Оскільки у той час я ще була дитиною, зараз я вже точно не пам'ятаю, що я собі уявляла, коли чула словосполучення "роза вітрів". Але до того, як дізналася, що воно насправді означає, термін вже напевно занурював розум у мрійливий настрій. Також не можу не зізнатись, що навіть знаючи, що воно таке, моє сприйняття цього символу не змінилося :-) І в моїй уяві він все ще має більше спільного з грайливим вітерцем, прогулянками на свіжому повітрі і втечею від буденності ніж із рутинними науковими спостереженнями.
So I didn't think much either about if it was worth buying the knits with compass rose motifs or about the pattern for the top to sew from it.
For the sewing any pattern of knits top sloper would suit because it had to be modified. I don't like to use the same patterns few times on the simple wish to test as many of them as possible so in my case as a basic pattern was chosen the one #16 from an old Diana Moden issue, 4/2002.
Тож я довго не думала ані про те чи варто купувати тканину з мотивом рози вітрів, ані про модель для топа, щоб пошити з цієї тканини.
Для пошиття підійшла б будь яка основа трикотажного топу, тому що її треба було змінити. Я не люблю користуватися тими самими викрійками декілька разів з простого бажання випробувати їх як найбільше, тому тут в якості основи я обрала модель 16 зі старого номеру Diana Moden, 4/2002.
The main idea was to make the top with a collar. It is very simple to modify any basic pattern to do that. Firstly, the type of the desired collar must be chosen. Then the neck hole must be changed for the V-neck (not deep, about 5-6 cm). Then the lengths of the collar and the ready neck hole are measured; they must be the same. If the collar is too long, it must be shortened along the centre; if the collar is too short it must be lengthened along the centre. I used the collar from my pattern but it can be any you like.
The deepness of cut - slit - is defined as desired, it should be enough to the head to move through. But it also possible not to make the slit at all.
Головна ідея була пошити топ з коміром. Для цього треба дуже просто змінити основу. По-перше, треба вибрати модель бажаного коміра. Потім треба змінити виріз горловини на виріз мисом (не глибокий, 5-6 см). Потім треба виміряти довжину коміра і довжину вирізу горловини; вони мають бути однаковими. Якщо комір довший, його треба вкоротити по центу, якщо коротший - то подовжити теж по центру. Я взяла той комір, який був у журналі, але можна скористатися будь яким.
Глибину вирізу - щілини визначаємо за бажанням, головне, щоб голова пролізла. Можна і не поглиблювати взагалі.
The fabric looks different on the right and wrong sides. And while wearing the top the slit will surely be open so the neck hole is better to process with the facing. It must be cut pretty wide to cover the future opening part of the wrong side. It aso should be reinforced at least in the middle to make the slit keep the shape.
Тканина виглядає по різному з лиця та вивороту. А під час носки виріз вже напевно буде розкриватися тож виріз краще обробити обшивкою. Її треба викроїти доволі широкою, щоб закривала всю майбутню видиму частину зворотньої сторони. Також її варто зміцнити принаймні по середині переду, щоб щілина тримала форму.
As for the next steps, at first it is worth basting the collar to the neck hole. Then stitch on the both sides along the slit, only then cut the slit and stitch the collar to the top.
Then turn the top out, baste the seams of the slit and top stitch them. At the same time stitch the seam of the collar's sewing.
Щодо подальших кроків, спочатку варто вмітати комір в горловину, потім прострочити виріз по обидва боки вздовж щілини і лише потім розрізати щілину і вшити комір.
Потім вивернути топ, вимітати шви розрізу і відстрочити їх. Водночас відстрочуємо шов вшивання коміра.
As the facing is wide, it can to turn out while wearing so it is worth sewing it to the top from the shoulder seams down for about 10-12 cm.
Оскільки обшивка широка, під час носки вона може вивертатися, тому бажано настрочити її від плечових швів вниз десь на 10-12 см.
The only thing to do now - to put the top on and go outdoors to meet the playful wind and follow it to escape from every day life at least for awhile:-)
Все, що залишається зробити - вдягнути топ і вийти на вулицю, зустріти грайливий вітерець та вирушити за ним, щоб втекти від буденності хоча б на деякий час:-)
